Lips take a beating in winter. They don’t have the oil glands that the rest of our skin has to naturally hydrate them. Team this with their protruding nature and they are particularly vulnerable to the elements.

We’ve reviewed some top products for lips – just in time for National Lipstick Day on July 29 – that will help keep your pout in perfect condition all through the chilly months.

Lush Lips with By Terry Baume De Rose

By Terry Baume De Rose

This is by far my all-time fave lip balm. It has a hint of rose in its scent and taste and glides seamlessly over lips, leaving a subtle rose-tinted hue that adjusts to your skin tone. Deeply hydrating and protective, it also contains potent antioxidants to repair and protect stressed lips.

This is a super-nourishing lip balm that hydrates lips as well as protects them from dryness and chapping. It’s great to whip out on chilly days when you’re racing indoors and outdoors, or you’re generally on the go.

Dr Roebuck’s Darling Lip Therapy
Tropicology Certified Organic Avocado Lip Balm

We all know the internal benefits of avocado. This nurturing, nourishing fruit is rich in antioxidants and healthy fats to make your skin glow from within. Why not apply it topically, too? This hydrating balm is rich in avocado oil, as well as complementary botanicals that will leave lips repaired and nourished.

Enriched with Vitamin E, Cocoa Oil, Shea Butter and Omegas 3, 6 and 9 for extra hydration and nourishment, with a bonus of broad spectrum SPF 50+, this is a must for your next ski trip! Slather it on regularly to protect lips from winter’s harsh elements!

We Are Feel Good Cocoa Lip Balm SPF 50+
Hurraw! Raspberry Tinted Lip Balm 4.8g

Available in 29 hydrating, slightly tinted varieties, this is a dream to apply. I’m pretty sure I have about 10 of these, but my current fave is the Raspberry Tinted Lip Balm. It imparts a ‘just-bitten’ hue and nurtures with organic oils and botanicals.

With a clear and non-sticky formula, this glides over lips to impart shine and ultra-hydration. It’s rich in sweet cherry seed oil, Barbados cherry extract and wild cherry extract. This triple hydrating threat ensures your lips not only look amazing, but receive long-lasting moisture all day long. It’s also vegan and wheat gluten-free.

Fenty Skin Cherry Treat Conditioning + Strengthening Lip Oil
Susanne Kaufmann Lip Balm

A deeply moisturising and protective balm, this was created by the Queen of Alpine Skincare, Susanne Kauffman, who was born and raised in the Austrian Alps. It’s brimming with nourishing oils and protective waxes, as well as nutrient-dense plant extracts. It glides over lips and leaves them feeling soothed, softened and (perhaps it’s just me?) but also a little bit plumper! I also love that it is petroleum and paraffin free.

If you want a tad of tropical summer in the middle of winter, teamed with a hydrating exfoliation for chapped lips, this is for you. This vegan lip scrub uses organic caster sugar to gently slough away flaky skin and. coconut oil to drench them with moisture. it has an island-coconut scent that will transport you to your fave summer holiday spot.

6.1 COCONUT Vegan Lip Scrub
Lanolin Lip Balm SPF30 Rhubarb

This gorgeous gloss was created using premium, medical-grade lanolin that soothes lips like nobody’s business! It is pigmented perfectly to give all skin tones a beautiful tint that doesn’t take over the rest of your make-up. SPF30 is an added bonus, especially on deceptively cloudy days, where UVA rays can be every bit as damaging as blue sky days.

Lük Beautifood’s Lip Nourish Natural Lipsticks

With 14 fab shades to choose from, each lippy in this collection is brimming with nourishment for thirsty lips. Think: food-grade ingredients, including avocado and sesame seed oils, cocoa butter and honeycomb. It’s also rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E, as well as antioxidants, minerals and essential fatty acids to nurture sore lips and protect them from environmental aggressors. The range imparts sheer to medium coverage with intense hydration, natural fragrance, and long-lasting creamy pigment. I really love the suits-all-skin-tones shade, Nude Pink.
