It’s time to spring clean your makeup bag and adopt a brand new palette of fresh colours!
The days are (slowly) getting warmer – it’s time to change your makeup colour scheme and think about shimmering pearls, delicate florals and sun-kissed golden bronzers.
Put winter colours aside in favour of brighter and fresher tints. Everybody’s makeup kit needs a spring clean from time to time. Things go out of date, fashion changes, or you’ve just got too much and it’s all too confusing!
Lay out all your makeup – from the bathroom cupboard, your handbag and the car. Decide which ones will stay or go by looking at each item individually. Do you remember when you bought it? Check for smell and texture. If it doesn’t look right or smells a bit off, then make an executive decision – toss it and start afresh.
In warmer weather we want quick and simple makeup that reflects our outdoor life and easy attitude to summer living. Mineral foundations can form the perfect light as-a-feather but flawless base, ideal for light summer colour palettes.
If you have an oily T section, use an anti-shine primer to tighten pores and prepare your skin for foundation. If you have dark circles or blemishes, blend in some oil-free concealer to start, followed by lightly sweeping the face with the mineral foundation. Use a top quality brush (like a kabuki brush made from goat’s hair) and shampoo it regularly to keep it oil and germ free. Take your time – the application will look much more natural and cover better if you use a smaller amounts built up in layers, but remember it should only take a few minutes.
Add a touch of golden bronzer for a gorgeous sun-kissed look on the cheeks. Softer colours give that beautiful lightly tanned look. Use shades that glow in the sunlight such as peach and gold to give a fresh, dewy, younger looking appearance. If you have a bit of an outdoors day planned – coffee, parks and barbecues – these luminous colours will sparkle in the sunlight. Use a brush to apply the colour to your cheeks and dab your lips with a pretty pink gloss for a kissable pout. You’re ready to go.
If you are fair-skinned, for a flirty feminine look why not try shimmering pearlised pinks, violets or creams skimmed lightly on the eyelids, with pink or peach cream blush for the cheeks and a sheer and shimmery lip gloss?
Those with darker complexions or warm-toned skin should consider creamy chocolates and cocoas that give a dramatic tropical glow for a seductive velvety complexion to match the warm dark nights. To make your eyes really stand out in the dark, line the inside of your lower lid with a shimmery white or cream eyeliner and splurge out on some lash extensions for sultry eyes to die for!
Whatever style you go for, new products in different formulations will refresh your look and give you the chance to try something new with your summer makeup.
