Lexi Delarosa, the California-based social media sensation, famous for her wholesome posts where she cooks from scratch using healthy ingredients, has divided the Internet. Her beautifully styled videos, where she prepares meals from scratch for her husband and two sons, feature sweet calming music, a perfectly styled home and give off true Disney Princess vibes.

Most of her followers on Instagram and TikTok can’t get enough of it, delighting in her sweet posts and irresistible recipes, delivered with a backdrop of muted hues, lovely tunes and a touch of humour. Then, there’s the trolls, who love to come at her for keeping a calm, utterly relaxed home, as well as ‘her sad beige life’.

None of the trolling bothers this lovely lady though. In fact, it provides inspiration for more content, which is at once informative, clever and hits back at aforementioned trolls with kindness and humour. The comments section goes off like a frog in a sock, and her followers lap it all up with glee.

“People like my page for different reasons. They’re there either for the comment section or for the baking content,” she tells me over a Zoom call from her San Diego home. As usual, Lexi is the image of pared-back beauty. Her signature ponytail is perfect and her minimal make-up, with her perfectly winged eyeliner, only enhances her natural glow.

Her gorgeous look is in fact the reason we are chatting today. I’ll admit, I’m there for her baking and homemaking skills as much as I am the comments, and I couldn’t help but notice how many followers were begging to know her beauty secrets. So, I reached out to her for a chat about all things beauty, and here we are!

Keep reading for her easy-to-follow beauty tips and a list of her go-to skin, hair and make-up products.

Lexi Delarosa on her skincare secrets

For Lexi Delarosa, beauty is all about clean, minimal routines.

“If I find something I like, I stick with it. I don’t I don’t like change,” she says with a laugh. “It’s important to me that I use products that have clean ingredients, and I like to keep things simple. So when people ask about my skin care, I feel like they might get bored.

“l use a good face wash morning and at night, washing my face with Glow Recipe Blueberry Bounce Cleanser. Then, I use Glow Recipe Watermelon PHA + BHA Pore Tight Toner. I follow this with Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturiser. They work really well. For sun protection, I apply Supergoop Glow Screen followed by Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Sunscreen SPF50.

“It’s pretty similar at night time. Sometimes, I’ll use a sleeping mask. I really like Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow AHA Night Treatment. You just put it on and sleep with it overnight.

“Once a month, I’ll visit Four Moons Spa in Encinitas and have a facial. Oh my gosh, it’s like a little sanctuary, it’s the most beautiful. They do massages, facials, all kinds of things! You can just go and hang out among the Koi ponds. It’s very beige,” she adds with a laugh.

“I don’t really do at-home facials. Occasionally, if there’s an event or something unexpected, I will, but it’s definitely not part of my routine.”

Making up with Lexi Delarosa

“I do my make-up the same way every day. My foundation also has SPF – I use Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint in the shade Shela. It’s another clean beauty brand that I’ve used for years.

“I use a Merrit concealer and then a little bit of eyeshadow, and I apply my winged eyeliner every day – One Size Eyeliner in Bodacious Black. It makes me feel like I get ready every day and put in some effort, but it’s not difficult to do. Then I apply a light coat of Saie Mascara 101 and a little Milk Makeup Lip and Cheek in the shade Werk. I sometimes also use the Dior Lip Oil in Raspberry. I’ll add a light blush and then blend Merrit Highlighter Stick on my cheekbones and the corner of my eyes. For my brows, I use Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel and I brush them up with gel. They stay there all day. I did micro-blading a really long time ago, and even though it fades away after a few years, it was really helpful.

“Fake tan is something I don’t do. I am half Native American on my mother’s side, so I have naturally tanned looking skin. If I am outside, I will tan easily.”

Hair routine

“I get my hair coloured, but it is pretty close to my natural colour. Before I had kids, I used to be pretty blonde. In recent years, I’ve let that go because it was so much maintenance. Sometimes, I’ll get some highlights just for fun. I’ve actually been on this journey with my hair, trying to grow it out. I have very unhealthy hair, mostly from bleaching. So when I let go of doing the blonde, the first step was to get it healthy again!

“These days, I don’t use much heat on my hair. I’ll wash it about twice a week and then usually let it air dry overnight. Or I’ll do a blow dry. My go-to hairstyle right now is my fun ponytail. It’s very low maintenance, and it doesn’t take any heat. It makes me feel cute during the day.

“I use Dae Monsoon Moisture Mask once a week. If my hair feels extra dry, or it needs a little shine, I apply Dae Prickly Pear Hair Oil. I go to Sunny Hair Days by Betsy at Second Place Co in Encinita every six weeks or so.  I’ve been really really intentional about things being low maintenance but I definitely should get it trimmed more often!

“I want everything to be simple and not overcomplicate things. It’s finding what works best for me. I have two different hairstyles. It just streamlines everything.”

Lex-ercise

“I have a desire to have a good exercise routine but it doesn’t fit into my schedule right now. Running around the house with the kids is my exercise! I am up all day with two toddlers, always running around the house, carrying somebody. So, I’m not sitting down all day. I’m at least moving my body. We do spend a lot of time outside. When I have time I love yoga classes and running.”

Healthy eating

“I try not to eat processed foods. Sometimes we will eat out. My kids love In ‘n Out Burger, but we don’t do that too often. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 17. So I have to be very careful about what I eat. Ever since then, I’ve been very intentional about eating healthy foods and more mindful of where my food comes from. Since having kids, that has been amplified.

“I don’t know what caused my Type 1 Diabetes but I don’t want them to be exposed to anything that might cause them to have health issues. I’ve been making their baby food from scratch, ever since my first son was born. I really enjoy making everything from scratch. We eat lots of fruits and veggies. My husband likes eating healthy too and he loves exercising. That also contributes to the kids’ behaviour because they aren’t eating lots of processed foods and sugar.

“I would say I drink the recommended amount of water each day. Whenever I am making the kids drinks I will make water. There are some days I can tell I haven’t had enough. I have to be intentional as it isn’t something I crave. First thing in the morning, I make myself drink a big glass of water, so I know at least I did that. Then I remind myself all day.

“I don’t really have alcohol. It’s not that I’m opposed, it ties into my Type 1 Diabetes. It has a weird effect on my blood sugar. I never feel good when I’m drinking. Though, I’ll have a glass of wine now and then.”

Sleep

“I don’t get a ton of sleep – I would love to get more but it is hard with two little ones. They wake up so early – between 6 a.m. and 6.30 a.m.. I like to be up an hour before them to get breakfast ready and drink my coffee. Plus, I always stay up late! So, I definitely don’t get the recommended amount of sleep.”

Lexi’s top beauty tip

“My number one tip would be to have a routine that you know works for you. That is your go-to every single day, that’s quick and makes you feel good all day. It shouldn’t be stressful or overwhelming.”

Keeping things calm

“I knew when I had kids, what I wanted it to look like – a calm home life. While you can’t pick a personality, I wanted them to be peaceful, calm and sweet. I feel like if your home is chaotic, it’s hard to help shape that personality. Our house is very minimal and very beige and calm. It is organised and all of that helps raising calm kids and keeping life peaceful.”
