If you have a missing tooth (or teeth), dental implants offer you a long-lasting solution to fill the gaps and rock a flawless and healthy smile.
Dental implants not only replace your missing teeth but they also help you regain your confidence. You’ll be able to smile without feeling self-conscious and eat your favourite foods again without restriction, not to mention dramatically improve your health and overall wellbeing.
Clear Dental specialises in creating beautiful smiles and Dr Johnson and his dedicated team are experts in all aspects of dental implants. Dr Johnson uses a unique and minimally invasive keyhole surgery technique for implant placement, achieving optimal results with fewer incisions.
So, what exactly are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial teeth that are used in place of missing teeth. Dental implants replace the tooth root with an artificial root that is surgically placed into the upper or lower jawbone. The tooth attached to artificial root implants is very natural looking and can often enhance your smile and function.
“Losing teeth can be devastating and can not only affect the way you look but can also lead to other physical problems that may affect your health,” says Dr Johnson. “Replacing missing teeth with dental implants can prevent physical changes such as bone loss, shifting and drifting of teeth, alteration in the bite, jaw joint problems, difficult in chewing and additional stress on the remaining teeth.”
What happens during keyhole implant?
Dr Johnson has extensive experience with tooth replacement and uses a minimally invasive keyhole surgery technique for implant placement, one of the top procedures at Clear Dental. The unique keyhole technique achieves superior and natural looking results with fewer incisions and minimal discomfort.
Keyhole dental implants can usually be inserted in a quick and easy procedure. Sometimes specialise imaging is required to visualise the bone condition and three-dimensional viewing to ensure proper placement.
“The dental implant is placed in the ideal spot to form the gum tissue around the implant for up to six months. The bone around the dental implant will grow and integrate with the new implant in a matter of a few weeks,” says Dr Johnson.
“When healing is complete, the dental implant abutment is placed to connect the dental implant to the porcelain crown. Once the ceramist fabricates the new porcelain crown to exact specifications, the crown in bonded to the abutment,” says Dr Johnson.
Patients may experience some discomfort and bleeding the day of the surgery, however medication is usually prescribed to minimise any pain or discomfort.
“There is often a temporary loss of feeling in the operated area and the tooth may feel loose,” explains Dr Johnson. “We encourage patients to keep their next appointment on time for follow up checks.”
The good news? If looked after properly, dental implants will not only look and feel great but will often last a lifetime.
