Digital Smile Design Veneers are the latest technology in the cosmetic dental world. They are used for recreating, or repairing, your smile. Shonagh Walker spoke to Sydney dentist, Dr Gamer Verdian from The Dental Lounge, who explained exactly what it’s all about.

Who is the best candidate for Digital Smile Design Veneers?

“Digital Smile Design Veneers are for a wide range of patients that are looking to improve the shape, alignment and appearance of their teeth. With all the new technology for veneers, particularly as we can do no-prep veneers much easier these days, it gives a lot more people the option to get veneers to improve their smiles.”

What is actually involved in the process?

“The most important step with veneers is to get as much information as possible at the start both from the patient as well as taking great records through photos, moulds, digital scans and X-rays.

“Once that information is collected, a plan for Digital Smile Design Veneers needs to be created. We use Digital Smile Design to make sure the veneers we create are well suited to a person’s facial features, so they look natural.

“Once the plan is perfected, we commence with tooth reduction (if needed) and moulds of the teeth. This is followed by the creation of provisional veneers that work as a test drive for the final set. It takes two to three weeks for the veneers to be crafted. Once crafted, we try them in the mouth and bond them in place.”

Is it painful?

“Veneers should not hurt, particularly during the reduction procedure. We numb the teeth that are being veneered, so we find that almost all of our patients have very limited to no pain.”

How long does the process take from start to finish?

“There is a lot of variability in time, but our preferred timeframes are six to eight weeks, as it allows us to dedicate the correct amount of time to the planning phase. It’s a lot like building a house – you need great planning of the Digital Smile Design Veneers and the foundations to have a successful case long term.”

How much does it cost and what results can I expect?

Veneers cost between $500-2500 per tooth, depending on the type of material and complexity of the case. The results can be life changing and very dramatic. You can also opt for natural veneers or more Hollywood type veneers. The important part is that the improvements made are often nothing short of amazing, both cosmetically, and for dental health.”
