Treasure Island Fiji is a budget-friendly resort located in the stunning Mamanuca Islands. Writer Faye James recently enjoyed a week-long family vacation at the resort, and found it a beautiful tropical break.
As soon as we arrived by a private boat transfer, just 30 minutes from Denarau port, we were struck by the intoxicating beauty of the island. The resort is surrounded by crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. The palm trees and lush vegetation added to the picture-perfect tropical vibe. Our beachfront bure was simple but clean, spacious and comfortable, and the view of the ocean from our balcony was simply mesmerising. We were also provided with nearby hammocks and beach chairs, in which to laze around all day.
Treasure Island Aquatic Bliss
Treasure Island is a paradise for snorkelers of all levels. The turquoise waters teem with vibrant marine life and coral reefs. You’ll see a diverse array of tropical fish, including colourful parrotfish, tangs, and butterflyfish. There are also several species of sea turtles that can often be spotted while snorkelling.
In fact, Treasure Island is dedicated to protecting and conserving the local turtle population. The resort offers a range of activities to educate guests about these amazing creatures. We had the chance to learn about the different types of turtles that can be found in the Mamanuca Islands, and even got to help release some baby turtles into the ocean. It was a truly unforgettable experience.
The island is also home to a coral reef restoration project that aims to preserve and protect the delicate marine ecosystem surrounding it. The project involves several initiatives, including the propagation and transplantation of coral fragments to damaged areas of the reef. This helps to restore the natural balance of the reef and encourage the growth of new coral colonies. It boasts some of the most colourful and vibrant coral we’ve seen to date.
Whether a beginner or an experienced snorkeler, you’ll be awed by the beauty and diversity of this underwater world.
Meals
I’ll be honest. The food at the resort wasn’t always up to par, however there was one standout exception: the freshly baked bread. Every morning, we looked forward to the warm, fluffy bread, muffins and croissants straight out of the oven. They were by far the best thing on the breakfast menu – definitely worth waking up early for.
The gourmet seaside buffet is well worth booking for dinner. With a stunning oceanside location, fresh salad, fruit, grilled prawns and calamari, it’s a feast for the senses. You also get a personalised waitering service for the evening, which enhances the experience.
We also really enjoyed the afternoon tea with freshly baked cookies, offered every day at Treasure Island. It was a great opportunity to take a break from the sun and enjoy light refreshments with other guests. The cookies were always straight out of the oven, and we looked forward to indulging each day.
Ringing In The New Year
One of the highlights of our stay at Treasure Island was the New Year’s Eve fireworks display and cultural show. The resort put on a spectacular show, with fireworks lighting up the sky over the ocean. It was a truly magical moment, and we were so glad we had the opportunity to witness it. It was the perfect welcome to 2023.
Spa Time
We also took the opportunity to indulge in a bit of relaxation at the resort’s spa. The spa was simple but had an experienced team of therapists who were skilled at providing a range of treatments. We especially enjoyed the facials and body scrubs, which left us completely rejuvenated.
Affordable Luxury
Treasure Island’s big drawcard is its affordability. The reasonable room rate included breakfast, and activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. This meant we didn’t have to worry about hidden costs during our stay.
From the breathtaking surroundings and friendly staff, to the exciting activities and relaxing spa treatments, there was always something to keep us entertained. The friendly and welcoming staff at Treasure Island went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, and were always willing to help with any requests we had. If you’re looking for an affordable and laid-back holiday in Fiji, Treasure Island is definitely worth considering.
