2024 Met Gala has come and gone, with Gigi Hadid nailing the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ brief better than anyone. Her fairy tail-esque dress called for classic, utterly feminine hair.
Enter celeb hair stylist, Laura Polko, who created a Marilyn Monroe-inspired hairstyle using Joico hair products. “This look was inspired by Marilyn Monroe,” says Laura. “We wanted something classic and feminine to go with the Sleeping Beauty theme.”

“First, I prepped Gig’s hair with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo + KBOND20 Power Masque,” reveals Laura. “Then, I created density and volume with JoiWhip Foam mousse. Finally, I created texture and lift at the root with Body Shake.”
Next step is to blow dry the hair. Laura used Blow a small round brush to create volume and a soft wave, then she pinned Gigi’s hair, low on the back of her head.
Creating the look
“I created a deep left side part at the front and pinned hot rollers to the left side, aiming them down and away from the face. On the top and right side, I pinned hot rollers close to the root for volume. I used a spritz of Power Spray to set, then once cooled, I released the rollers and used a one-inch curling iron to finish the lengths.
Finishing Touches
“Simply pin curl the hairline to create an s-wave. Then, on the left side, pin the curl towards the face. One the right, you want to pin the curl away from the face. Finally, on the front and top, pin your curls forward to create maximum volume.
“Spray with Flip Turn and allow hair to cool before removing the pins. Then, brush through and set style with your fingers. Lacquer in place with Joico Flip Turn to finish.”
