Want to know someone’s true feelings? Science says it’s all in the brows.
Brow experts Benefit Cosmetics have recently joined forces with facial expression analysis expert Dr. Javid Sadr, Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge in Canada, to study brows. It turns out those innocent hairs above your eyes are a massive giveaway of your innermost emotions.
In the research study – “The role of eyebrows in face recognition” – Dr Sadr and his team extensively investigated a system of facial-expression analysis.
They separated the face into three compartments: upper, middle and lower. They then studied the 6 universally recognised emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, fear, disgust and surprise. Remarkably, they realised that the upper compartment of the face, which contains the eyebrows, was found to play the key role in each.
“Eyebrows can communicate the full spectrum of emotions from aggression to fear to joy,” explains Dr Sadr.
Together with their brow expertise and Dr Sadr’s scientific knowledge, Benefit Cosmetics have created the Benefit Brow Translator, which defines how brow shapes and movements decode our feelings.
The new website uses facial recognition software to “read” your arches, analysing them for emotions. It can reveal if you’re feeling happy, seductive, angry or even just a bit ‘meh’. All you have to do is take a selfie, upload it to the site and the facial recognition analysis gets to work decoding your brow and revealing your ‘REAL’ emotions. Pretty nifty, huh?
A bold, straight brow translates confidence and competence, while a striking raised arch may mean you’re sassy and up for a good time.
Not only is it a totally adorable concept but it’s also extremely addictive!
