Tips from the experts on how to wear this summer’s eye makeup trends.
We spoke to two experts in the area of eye makeup – Benefit senior brow and beauty expert Tyler Kellaher and By Terry award-winning makeup artist Charlotte Ravet – who know a thing or two about showing off your eyes to their best advantage.
Of course, we all know eyebrows have the power to completely change the appearance of your face – that’s why the correct shaping, styling and colour are crucial.
‘At Benefit we use brow mapping, a technique which helps to find the ideal brow shape,’ explains Tyler. ‘Our experts will use a pencil such as Precisely: My Brow Eyebrow Pencil or Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil to mark the start, the arch and the tail end of the perfect brow for the client, which can then be waxed or tweezed around.
‘A brow tint will help to manipulate the brow area and darken any of those fine hairs on the perimeter of the brow that you didn’t even know were there. The result is an instantly fuller- looking brow.’
Brows are a prominent aspect of this summer’s eye look. Fluffy, tinted brows are the perfect complement to (faux) bronzed and dewy skin. To create the look at home, try Benefit’s Fluff Up Brow Wax or Gimme Brow + Volumizing Gel, $48 each.
With your eyebrows out of the way, it’s time to focus on the eyes. ‘The “latte makeup look” (a bronzed, glowy makeup trend that uses shades of browns and nudes) has really brought back the brown eyeliner, which gives a softer look to the eye,’ says Tyler. ‘My favourite interpretation of this look is to create an elongated shape and a small wing tip to the eyes using Benefit Roller Liner in Brown.’
Another tip from Tyler: add a highlighting flush of colour to your eyelids by using Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer or Shellie Warm-Seashell Pink Blush. This will give a seamless, sculpted and cohesive look to the entire face.
Renowned makeup artist and educator Charlotte Ravet says this summer’s eye makeup trend is all about enhancing a healthy glow – without spending hours in the bathroom getting ready. Makeup should be effortless and long-lasting, with bonus points if it also doubles up as skincare.

Charlotte’s summer eye makeup palette this year is comprised of warm tones of bronze, peach and gold. ‘I like By Terry Ombre in Bronze Moon on the lids and blending underneath the eyes with By Terry Blackstar Crayon in Terrybleu,’ she shares. ‘Blue is always a good colour to use as it awakens the eyes and makes the whites look whiter and brighter.
