Acne is pretty much one of the worst things ever. And if you’re a teen with acne, you know why. It’s not only really annoying, but it’s really difficult to fight. Here are a few simple solutions that can help you keep blemishes at bay.
Wear your hair up when you sleep
Prevent unnecessary pimples by wearing your hair up when you sleep. Whether you go for the top knot or the braid, tying your hair up will prevent any lingering styling products, oils or bacteria transferring onto your skin.
Clean your phone
If you’re breaking out on your cheeks, swiping an alcohol-based hand sanitizer over your screen and wiping it down with a tissue could be the answer. When you’re constantly on the phone, pressing it up against your face the warmth from it, combined with your own body heat, can brew together bacteria, oil, and dirt on your skin, causing a patch of pimples. Gross.
Use a spot treatment
There are HEAPS out there. The key ingredients to look for when shopping for spot treatments are salicylic acid and glycolic acid – these two pack a real punch when it comes to pimple zapping goodness.
Wash your makeup brushes and sponges
All that gunk in brushes and makeup sponges can contribute to acne. Brushes that are exposed to cream product (liquid foundation, cream blush, concealer, lipstick, etc) are more prone to attract dirt and bacteria compared to brushes used for powder products. Therefore, you should cleanse them more often to keep acne flare-ups from occurring. The same goes for makeup sponges – try and wash these bad boys once a week to avoid breakouts and replace them once a month.
Keep makeup wipes by your bedside
We all know what it’s like when you’re in bed all comfy and Netflix-y and you just realise you still have a heap of makeup on your face. When you simply can’t drag yourself to the bathroom, keep makeup removal wipes by your bedside so you can remove pore-clogging makeup. It may not be as good as giving your face a proper cleansing by the sink, but it’s better than nothing.
Style your hair before applying makeup
Applying makeup, then styling your hair is a big no. The heat from your styling tools not only can cause your makeup to melt (what nightmares are made of), but it will cause your products (not to mention any sweat) to sink further into your pores, which can result in breakouts.
Turn the heat down
Everyone loves a scalding hot shower. But, while it can make us feel nice and toasty it can also make skin dehydrated and flaky. Dehydrated skin leads to the over-production of oils, which can lead to acne. So, save yourself the hassle and turn down the temp during your next shower.
