While there are people out there who can look crazy perfect without a spot of makeup, the rest of us mortals don’t tend to wake up with dewy skin, bag-less under eyes and beautifully rosy cheeks. Want to nab that #wokeuplikethis look? Welcome to ‘no-makeup’ makeup.

While makeup has the ability to completely transform a face (umm, watch this makeup artist turn into Emma Watson), but it also has a more low-key ability to make us appear glowing, magical and wide-awake. However as trending as it may be, no-makeup makeup can be a fickle, elusive thing. Yes, it requires a level of trickery that takes time and precision, but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually quite easy.

Face

The trick is in your foundation. If you just focus on placing foundation or concealer where you actually need it (over redness, blemishes and dark circles), while leaving the rest of the face bare, it will actually look way more natural and will have people thinking you’re just darn flawless.

The key to looking like you’re not actually wearing anything is to skip applying foundation in obvious areas such as on and around the nose. If you can’t go without, make it minimal and wipe a tissue down the bridge of the nose to remove excess product to still achieve a close-to-natural look.

Finish it all off with a super-light dusting of translucent powder.

Eyes

For bright, wide-awake eyes, choose a cream eye shadow in a shade that is as close as possible to your own skin tone. Blend the shadow up from your lash line, fading it out as you get closer to your brows. You can also apply a lighter shade in the inner corners of the eyes to instantly open them up.

Lashes and Brows

Groom those bad boys! Make sure you keep your brows looking neat by brushing them up and away with a spoolie and clear brow gel. For a beautiful, natural curled lash, use an eyelash curler. If needed, apply a bit of mascara to your top lashes.

Cheeks

The key? Don’t go too crazy. For that natural looking flush apply a cream blush with your fingers. Start at the apple of your cheeks and blend the colour back towards your hairline. Dab a small amount of highlighting cream on top of your cheekbones to finish.

Lips

That last step? Swipe on a little bit of lip tint to add a natural colour to your lips.

Easy as pie.
