Blowdrying your hair. It’s one of the things you do all the time, but probably not ‘the right way’. If you’re anything like us, you’re a bit of a just-blast-it-until-dry kinda gal. While it gets the job done, it doesn’t look half as good as it does when you walk out of the salon.
So what’s the proper way to blowdry your hair? We give you some insider tips on how to get the best at-home blowdry.
Step #1
Attach the nozzle on your hairdryer to give the air more direction and choose a warm setting. Start at the back of your head: take a two-inch wide section at the nape of your neck and wrap your hair around the barrel of the hairbrush.
Step #2
Face the hairdryer downwards so the air is shooting down the hair shaft. Pull the brush away from your head from root to end, following this with the hairdryer. Switch the dryer to a cold setting and repeat to set the hair. Work up and around your head, repeating this process.
Step #3
When you get to the crown of your hair, lift the sections of hair up vertically with the brush. Spend a minute with the nozzle aimed upwards under the brush to dry the roots. Then aim the nozzle down on top of the hair and give it a shot of cold air. After this, keep the brush in for 30 seconds.
Step #4
Shake your head upside down and spray it with hairspray. Give it a good brush. Put a small amount of finishing cream or serum into your palm and rub all over your hands. Hang your head upside down and glide your hands through the last two inches of your hair.
Hot tips:
• Your hair should be 60% dry before you even start to attack it with the hairdryer and brush. If you pre-dry with a towel, it’s less damaging to your hair.
• Invest in a quality hairdryer with multiple settings for a professional-looking result. And a top notch barrel brush is also a must!
• The secret to a lush-looking blowdry is shiny, conditioned hair. Keep your hair in good condition by treating it to an intensive moisturising treatment once a week.
