What is it?
Enlighten, developed by Cutera, is an advanced laser treatment that uses nanosecond and picosecond technology for gentle and quick improvement in the appearance of unwanted freckles, melasma, sun spots, and age spots.
It can be used on all skin types and is an ideal treatment for the face, hands and other areas of the body with noticeable signs of sun damage and pigmentation.
How does it work?
Melanin is what gives us colour in our skin, but when it occurs in high or uneven concentrations it can result in pesky brown spots and uneven skin tone. The laser light from enlighten uses two different wavelengths (532nm/1064nm) to treat these brown spots, breaking the melanin into tiny particles that are then absorbed by the body.
Enlighten has an attachment called the Micro Lens Array (MLA), which features a unique beam profile allowing for superior surface coverage and deeper penetration when approaching skin rejuvenation. MLA’s fractionated delivery system creates very small zones of injury to the dermis or epidermis resulting in even greater treatment versatility and safety.
Typically a series of two or three enlighten treatments are recommended to achieve optimal results, and ongoing maintenance treatments will encourage the best results over time.
What should you expect?
Prior to treatment the target area will be cleaned and the tip of the laser will then be placed on your skin.
During treatment you will feel a sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped against your skin. Most patients do not find the treatment uncomfortable, however your treatment provider may apply a topical anaesthetic.
Immediately after treatment, you can expect some mild redness and swelling for a few hours, however you can return to regular activities immediately following the treatment.
