Cosmetic procedures are on the rise according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ (ASPS) annual report for 2017.
Released on March 1, the figures reveal that both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures are increasing in popularity, with 17.5 million procedures being performed in the US in 2017. This represents a two per cent increase overall since 2016, with interest in minimally invasive treatments growing at a slightly higher rate than that in surgical procedures.
The figures highlight the demand for fat reduction and body contouring treatments involving ultrasound, radio frequency and infrared technologies. Interest in laser based cellulite treatments increased by 19 per cent, while non-invasive ‘fat freezing’ techniques went up seven per cent.
After a four per cent decline in 2016, there was a dramatic spike of 11 per cent in breast reduction surgeries. Additionally, 2,000 more tummy tuck procedures were performed in 2017 than the previous year.
