The most (unexpected) popular beauty products during lockdown

Since the country was put in partial lockdown back in March, our shopping habits have shifted. Toilet paper puns aside, it seems Aussies have taken their skincare habits up a notch – to some serious levels of luxury.

Online beauty retailer Adore Beauty reported a 61% growth in sheet masks, while skincare tools, including crystal rollers and gua sha facial massage devices were up a whopping 112 percent. It also reported 105 percent growth in its home fragrance category, which is no surprise considering the amount of time we’ve all spent at home.

It seems no salon shutdown was going to stop up us from indulging in a little at-home skin treatment and good ol’ fashioned DIY beauty hacks.

“It’s been fascinating to see what customers prioritise during isolation,” Adore Beauty CEO and founder Kate Morris told The Sydney Morning Herald. “ Make-up is less important, but skincare is seen as essential. We’ve always believed that beauty is more about self-care than it is about appearance. People are feeling anxious and uncertain, and looking for products that give them comfort and a feeling of being looked after.”

Adore Beauty’s senior skincare manager Danielle Chee says other skincare tools such as dermal rollers were also selling out as people aren’t able to visit their usual facial salon or clinic for regular micro-needling sessions.

“It’s such a nice sentiment, knowing that everyone is stuck at home with ample time to focus on themselves, and investing in self-care and skin at this crazy time.”

Self-care definitely had its moment in the sun, and it’s an important habit to keep up, even as we begin reopening and gradually going back to a new “normal.”

O SKIN-INJECT Derma RollerO SKIN-INJECT Derma Roller ($79.95)

O COSMEDICS SKIN-INJECT MTS (Micro-Needling Therapy System) Derma Roller utilises 600 gamma-sterilised, 0.25mm micro-needles to effectively and visibly rejuvenate and regenerate the skin’s own natural healing response.

The independently rotating disks with advanced silicon suspension system provide the most comfortable and beneficial treatment possible, whilst reducing downtime.

Derma rollers have a number of uses including improving pigmentation issues and the surface of the skin. Fine lines, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation are all said to be diminished with regular derma rolling.

Derma rollers can also allow skin care products to penetrate deeper, producing more powerful effects from your serums and creams.
