Plastic Free July is a global yearly challenge where millions of people give up single use plastic during the month of July. It aims to raise awareness of the amount of single-use disposable plastic items in our lives and challenges people to do something about it.
In celebration of Plastic Free July, we spotlight just a few of the beauty and lifestyle companies, both near and far, dedicated to sustainability and recyclability.
Davines luxury Italian haircare is officially plastic neutral in 2022
Earlier this year Davines renewed its partnership with the social enterprise Plastic Bank, continuing its focus on regeneration in the fight against ocean plastic, while improving the lives of the local collectors in Indonesia, Brazil and the Philippines, where recycling is challenging.
The 2021 global campaign “Rethinking Plastic”, saw 100 tons of plastic collected from the coastal areas of Brazil, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The target for 2022: for every product sold by Davines Group, an equal amount of ocean-bound plastic will be collected. This means that not only are their products housed in bio-based polyethylene, a plastic derived from sugar cane that is perfectly recyclable, but all Davines Group products in 2022 are certified plastic neutral.
The target for 2022 is even more ambitious and consolidates the Davine’s commitment to promoting a regenerative approach to plastic, one of the most extensively used materials in packaging when it comes to everyday beauty products.
The renewal of the partnership with Plastic Bank is grounded in a shared common objective with Davines Group: to support the development of a truly regenerative society, through the revolution of the plastic cycle, improving peoples’ lives and preventing plastic from entering the seas. This all comes with an important guarantee of transparency, as Plastic Bank enables the real time monitoring and traceability of all collection activities through a blockchain platform.
