Arc Motif, a Brisbane-based beauty salon and art gallery, is proud to announce ‘Brows for Good’, a charitable program offering free cosmetic eyebrow tattoos to individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Arc Motif is looking to provide a nurturing and secure space to help restore confidence and beauty during a challenging time.

Owner of Arc Motif, Kiara Doherty, aims to help cancer patients feel cared for as they navigate their recovery journey by boosting their confidence and providing a sense of normality.

For Kiara, the fight against cancer is deeply personal. Her mother, Jane, was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer at a young age and tragically passed away just 18 months later. Initially, doctors believed Jane’s cancer was a rare, aggressive form with no known cause. However, three years later, Kiara’s aunt, Liz, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, leading to genetic testing that revealed a faulty BRCA1 gene.

“The BRCA1 gene plays a critical role in protecting against cancer. A mutation in this gene significantly increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. My family experience has fueled my passion for supporting those affected by cancer, inspiring Arc Motif’s ‘Brows for Good’ initiative,” says Kiara Doherty.

Following Kiara’s mother’s passing and aunt’s diagnosis, Kiara underwent genetic testing in 2017 and tested positive for the faulty BRCA1 gene.

She now undergoes regular monitoring, including bi-annual breast MRIs and ultrasounds. However, the lack of effective ovarian cancer screening options remains a concern.

Inspired by her family’s experience, Kiara launched ‘Brows for Good’ to support women recovering from cancer. Chemotherapy can cause eyebrow hair loss, significantly impacting self-confidence.

“Although it’s only something small, eyebrows have the power to completely transform the face. This initiative provides complimentary cosmetic eyebrow tattooing to help women regain their sense of self during a challenging time,” says Kiara.
