Niacinamide

“Niacinamide is a water soluble vitamin in the B group family,” explains Nicola Kropach, Aesthetics Rx skin expert. “It’s found in many foods including green vegetables, fish, eggs and cereal grains.”

What Are The Key Benefits Of Niacinamide?

“Niacinamide is versatile and multifunctional,” says Nicola. “It’s a good, safe choice for all skin types, even sensitive, acne and rosacea-prone skin. It reinforces the skin’s protective barrier, reduces inflammation and redness, and refines pores. Niacinamide also helps to reduce trans-epidermal water loss, even skin tone and assists with skin’s repair function. It minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles associated with premature skin ageing.”

Which Skin Types Is It Most Suitable For?

“All skin types can use Niacinamide for a healthy glow and antioxidant benefits,” says Nicola. “However, it’s beneficial for damaged skin with a compromised barrier, as well as complexions suffering redness and irritation. It is popular for treating hyperpigmentation in a clinical setting. It helps to minimise the appearance of brown, patchy uneven skin tone.”

The Ingredients It Works Well With?

“Niacinamide is easily formulated,” says Nicola. “It is chemically compatible with other skincare ingredients and well-tolerated by all skin types. As a cosmeceutical, it works well with most skincare ingredients, including other cosmeceuticals. These are retinoids, peptides, hyaluronic acid, AHAs, BHA, vitamin C, and antioxidants. If you’re using retinoids at night, team them with a Vitamin B serum during the day. Niacinamide can help reduce the irritation that typically occurs when first starting to use retinoids.”
