Winter is on her way and it’s time to elevate your beauty game with frosty eyes, cherry-red lips and flushed blush.

With the weather cooling down, now is the perfect opportunity to change up your makeup to match your winter wardrobe. Bianca Downward, YSL Beauty National Makeup Artist, fills us in on the coolest winter makeup trends for 2024.

‘Frosted, shimmery, cool-toned eye makeup is what we’ll be seeing this winter,’ says Bianca. ‘Drawing inspiration from the 90s, shades of blue, lilac and silver will be washed over the eye to create an icy look.’

YSL Beauty just launched its Couture Mini Clutches eyeshadow palettes, $117. Try Babylone Roses or Trocadero Nights for the ultimate cool girl makeup.

Red lips are a classic and we’ll be seeing a lot more of them this season, according to Bianca. ‘Deep red and cherry tones are trending. Ombre lips are also making a comeback. Try my favourite YSL lip combo for a deep cherry ombre lip: apply Crushliner, $63, in shade one to the lip line and blend softly towards the centre of the lip for a gradient effect. Finish the lip with Rouge Volupté Candy Glaze Lipstick in shade 7, $68. As for texture, both matte and gloss will be trending this season.

Blush is also here to stay. Rosy-pink tones are perfect for creating a flushed, youthful appearance to the cheek. ‘Don’t be shy with your application as “over blushing” is a trend we will be seeing this winter season,’ says Bianca.

For a super-hydrated appearance, try using a lip product on the cheek to create a subtle glow. YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in shade Pink Muse, $68, is perfect for this.

Bianca says the upcoming winter trends are all about adding colour to the complexion, whether it’s flushed cheeks or bold lips. And don’t be afraid to match and clash colour this winter.

‘My number-one makeup tip for this winter (for all seasons really), is to ensure skin is well hydrated,’ she says. ‘Good skin prep is key, especially around the eye area when using frosted finishes as they can highlight uneven texture. YSL’s Pure Shots Eye Reboot Concentrate, $130, is ideal for prepping the eye area before makeup. The cream-to-serum formula hydrates the skin without leaving it feeling heavy or greasy. Plus, the light-defusing micro pearls within the product help to minimise the appearance of fatigue, providing an awakened, refreshed look.’ CBM
