Contouring – get it right in 5 simple steps

No matter how many YouTube tutorials and Kardashian selfies we look at, some of us just can’t quite get the hang of contouring.

For a subtly more sculpted mug, without the fuss, we’ve compiled the easiest guide to contouring, with minimal effort. All you need is your normal foundation and two stick foundations – one colour that is two shades darker than your foundation and one that is two shades lighter.

Step 1: Prep

After applying primer on clean, fresh skin, apply foundation to even out your skin tone and create a nice base.

Step 2: Map

Using the darker foundation, map your face by firstly tracing along the temples. If you have a larger forehead and want to minimise it, trace along your hairline. To make those cheekbones pop, place your fingers on the sides of your face, and where you feel it dip underneath the bones, just above it is where you place the dark foundation. For your nose, draw a vertical line on either side, going narrower at the tip. To add length or width to your nose, carry the line all the way to the brow.

Step 3: Blend

With a damp blender, tap in small circular motions over the contoured area, merging it into your base foundation.

Step 4: Light it up

Use the lighter foundation stick underneath your eyes, the centre of your forehead, your chin and the bridge of your nose. Again, blend in any excess product with a blending sponge.

Step 5: Dust

Using a fluffy brush and loose translucent powder, dust your entire face to secure foundation (especially if it’s cream foundation).

How easy is that? You now have yourself a subtly sharpened face. Go get ‘em, tiger.
