Nothing projects health and beauty quite like a smooth and blemish-free complexion.
Yet with the inevitability of breakouts, redness and dehydration, a flawless complexion can sometimes seem out of reach. These are our top tips to faultless skin. In just four simple steps, fabulous skin can be yours, and you can set about your day with confidence.
1. Prime
The first step to a truly flawless and long-lasting base is to apply a primer. Not only will the primer moisturise your skin, it holds your foundation in place.
If you haven’t already got a primer in your makeup bag, look for one that contains silicone, which is designed to smooth and conceal fine lines and uneven skin texture – creating the perfect canvas for your make-up. Paint on the skin with a foundation brush or apply with your fingers before waiting a minute to apply your foundation.
2. Cover
A quality foundation will give good coverage and help conceal any blemishes, discolouration or uneven skin tone that might be bothering you. It’s essential to buy a good quality foundation and one that is the right shade for your skin tone, so head over to a beauty counter and have a professional help you out.
To apply your foundation, use a beauty blender or a stippling brush, not forgetting to blend on to your neck and ears.
3. Correct and conceal
Use a corrector to address any redness and dark circles before applying a cream concealer, which will help keep the area moisturised and prevent the product from settling into fine lines. Remember to use a patting, rather than dragging, motion when applying both corrector and concealer, and be extra gentle with the delicate under-eye area. When it comes to the eye region, don’t be afraid to take your concealer onto the top of your eyelid as it will help cover up any veins as well as acting as a great base for your eye shadow.
4. Set
Next, a good loose powder will set your base gently and won’t settle into fine lines. If you don’t like the look of powder there are translucent powders, which are colourless powders and can be used on any skin shade. It’s a good idea to use powder on the areas that attract shine – this is usually your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).
Finally, after setting the existing makeup you can choose to add blush and/or bronzer to add colour.
