We’ve all been seeing a lot more of our living rooms during the COVID pandemic, and there’s never been a better time to add a little luxe to our home interiors. Whether it’s small adjustments here and there or a total revamp, interior design can transform your home from a source of stress or isolation to a sanctuary for calm and comfort.

Recent studies have shown that our environment influences our moods and emotions. In particular, light, texture and pattern can produce restorative qualities in the home to help reduce anxiety and depression.

To whet our creative visions, Lucy Montgomery, a leading Sydney-based interior designer, stylist and contributing interior design editor of Belle magazine, is set to launch her first collection of beautifully handcrafted plaster lamps complemented by bespoke soft furnishings using custom designed hand-painted linen fabrics.

Lucy Montgomery

‘I wanted to create timeless pieces which would forge a harmonious intersection of art and functionality. Lamps and soft furnishings have the ability to enhance an interior scheme, layering a new source of illumination, tactility and colour. This alters not just the ambience, but also has the ability to tie an entire room together, bringing it to life,’ she says.

Drawing inspiration from Spanish mission-style architecture, travels along the Mediterranean and European designers including Alberto Giacometti, Lucy has created a collection handcrafted in Sydney using local artisans and trades. The collection’s three lamp bases Del Rio, Minerva and Foglia, use plaster as a medium which boasts classic silhouettes reborn in clean contemporary lines. Their soft white patina presents versatility to be incorporated into any interior scheme. Lucy has carefully paired the bases with custom designed shades and sourced the finest hardware and fittings.

Investing in the aesthetics of your home can have direct positive effects on your mental health and wellbeing. Timeless pieces and hand-painted fabrics can elevate your home and help to create your own private sanctuary.
