The world of La Prairie has been inextricably linked to the world of art from the early beginnings of the company.
La Prairie is known worldwide for its support of the arts and of daring women artists. The organisation is a major sponsor of Art Basel Hong Kong, Basel and Miami and West Bund in Shanghai since 2017 and the patron of iconic cultural institutions such as Fondation Beyeler (Switzerland), MoMa Ps1 (US) and Centre Pompidou (France).
Last year La Prairie Australia launched the La Prairie art award. It supports Australian women artists through an international arts residency and the development of a new body of work, which has been commissioned and subsequently acquired for the Art Gallery of NSW by la Prairie.
This years winner is Thea Anamara Perkins. Thea painted 4 different family scenes which held great meaning for her and that strong emotion comes through in the art. Rosi Fenandez, the general manager of La Prairie Australia was the brains behind this award and she was very thrilled to see the high standard of work presented by all the artists and she felt that Thea’s work stood out from the others.
Thea said she is honoured to be the second recipient of the La Prairie Art Award. “I believe it is crucial that artists are well supported to create their work. I’m really excited by the International residency with La Prairie. It is invaluable to have this opportunity to extend my practice internationally, especially as a First Nations artist”.
