Having studied art at what is now the UNSW Art & Design in Sydney followed by a one-year European art exhibition and commission, Boyana Mavko left her much-loved creative passion to follow her other love, travel, as an international flight attendant for Qantas.

During her 20+ career at the national carrier, Boyana scoured the world, visiting art galleries and studying global art techniques that allowed her to keep her creative passion alive. But it wasn’t until COVID-19 hit that she was forced to make some tough decisions, like so many of her colleagues.

“Fortunately for me, COVID-19 was a blessing in disguise,” she said. “For so many years I’d dabbled in art but secretly always looking to see how I could make this a full-time way of life for me.”

The pandemic helped Boyana take a leap of faith and she left Qantas to realise her life-long dream of creating art to be enjoyed by others.

Since returning to art full time just six months ago, Boyana’s work was chosen to promote Port Macquarie’s major art fest at the Glasshouse on the NSW Mid North Coast.

She has also completed her first hugely successful pop exhibition in Surry Hills with more planned for 2021.

While she has grown as an artist over the years, she remains true to her style and is excited at incorporating conceptual elements from her long career travelling the world, into her evolving artwork.

Her works depict stunning colour hues and quirky subject matter from dancing clown fish to elephant safari’s that make this Artist’s style unique and one to watch out for.

“While art is subjective, I like to create an element of surprise in my work,” she said.

Her play on textural effects add to the depth and movement of her acrylic based works on canvas.

Boyana’s ethos is that art should be accessible for everyone and enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your budget.
