Eliminate trigger foods to beat fatigue and feel lighter this Summer

Summer is just around the corner — but between work, kids and endless to-do lists, many of us are running on empty. If you’re feeling flat, bloated or foggy-headed, the culprit may not be your schedule at all — it could be what’s on your plate.

A new analysis from FoodFit, Australia’s leading food-compatibility testing service, reveals that cutting out a few everyday “trigger foods” could help you feel lighter, clearer and more energised in as little as four weeks.

The power of knowing your trigger foods

Each year, FoodFit receives more than 5,000 reports from natural health practitioners detailing symptoms linked to food incompatibility. In its latest analysis of 2,856 reports, the top three symptoms plaguing Australians were bloating, fatigue and rashes or itchy skin — all potentially linked to an underlying sensitivity to common foods.

When clients removed their incompatible foods, the results were striking. On average, participants experienced:

  • 72% reduction in bloating by week three
  • 80% drop in brain fog after four weeks
  • 60% reduction in fatigue in the first week, improving to 80% by week four
  • 60% less sinus, hay fever and headache symptoms within four weeks

Digestive issues such as diarrhoea and constipation also improved by up to 80% and 60% respectively, while behavioural and mood-related symptoms eased by around 80%.

Why small changes matter

Founder and CEO Dennis Hodges says the results show how quickly the body can reset when trigger foods are removed.

“Many people accept bloating after lunch, afternoon fatigue or a foggy head as just part of getting older or being busy,” he says. “But our data shows that by identifying and removing just a handful of incompatible foods, people can dramatically improve how they feel within weeks.”

According to FoodFit’s findings, four in five Australians (85%) are incompatible with basic supermarket staples. The biggest offenders?

Full cream milk (95.5%), white bread (95.2%), wholemeal bread (94.9%), multigrain bread (94.8%) and skim milk (93.8%). Even A2 milk, pasta and cow’s milk cheese triggered reactions in over 84% of cases. Other common culprits include onion, garlic, cashews, tomato, corn products, strawberries and pineapple.

How FoodFit works

FoodFit’s at-home test measures your body’s compatibility with more than 500 foods and additives, producing a personalised report that highlights possible triggers. Participants then follow a guided elimination plan to help reduce inflammation, restore energy and support overall wellbeing.

FoodFit’s top tips for feeling your best this summer

  1. Do something: If you experience unexplained symptoms, try a food compatibility test.
  2. Tune in: Notice how you feel after meals — fatigue, bloating or fogginess are clues.
  3. Go back to basics: Simplify meals and avoid hidden additives where possible.
  4. Hydrate often: Aim for at least two litres of water daily to help flush irritants.
  5. Be patient: It usually takes around four weeks to feel the full benefits of eliminating trigger foods.

Your summer reset starts now

“It’s not about cutting out whole food groups or following fad diets,” adds Hodges. “It’s about finding what works for your individual body. Once you do, you’ll notice the difference fast — more energy, clearer skin and a lighter, happier you.”

With a few mindful tweaks and a little guidance, you could be feeling brighter, more balanced and ready to make the most of summer.
