Probiotic for IBS symptoms: BioGaia’s Gastrus Pure Action

Swedish probiotic brand BioGaia is launching Gastrus Pure Action — a new, scientifically backed probiotic designed to help relieve symptoms of medically diagnosed IBS, including bloating, abdominal discomfort and irregular bowel movements. With strains clinically proven to reach the gut alive, this gentle, vegan formula also supports everyday gut health and helps restore balance during digestive flare-ups.

Irritable bowel syndrome facts:

  • It’s estimated that 1 in 5 Australians suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, a condition that is characterised by abdominal pain, bloating, gas, diarrhoea and constipation (or both).
  • Women are more likely to experience IBS than men.
  • IBS is common and can be triggered by environmental factors like stress, a change of routine, infection, certain toileting behaviours and diet.
  • IBS is now considered to be a functional gastrointestinal disorder which acknowledges the gut-brain axis.

With probiotic strains L. reuteri DSM 17938 and L. reuteri ATCC PTA 6475 as its active ingredient, Gastrus Pure Action delivers 200 million colony forming units (CFU) which has been clinically proven to reach the gut alive despite not needing refrigeration.

BioGaia ANZ CEO Ben Wright says, “The clinical benefits of probiotics for treating IBS specifically are highly contingent on being strain-specific. Not all probiotics work the same, and even within species, strains can vary in effectiveness, survivability in the gut, and in how they interact with the body.”

Gastrus Pure Action has two clinically proven strains to help reduce abdominal discomfort, wind and bloating, support healthy bowel function and shore up the population of good bacteria in the gut during antibiotic use. Backed by 30 years of scientific research with several patented probiotic strains under its belt, BioGaia brings a wealth of clinical evidence to target digestive issues.

“At BioGaia our mission is to support gut health through scientifically-backed solutions which are effective and gentle enough for everyday use,” says Ben Wright, “We hope that this tailored product will help more Australians improve their quality of life free from the discomfort of IBS.”
