Charlotte Dawson is synonymous with beauty, style and unabashed wit. Here she shares her beauty secrets and what products she can live without.
Few women in Australia have achieved the level of success in so many different genres as Charlotte Dawson. She has been an actress-credits include the Vagina Monologue and Girls Night Out, an author -she wrote Charlotte’s Secrets– been a film and television producer-productions include Getaway NZ and a documentary called Charlotte’s Web. Charlotte has also been a style reporter for E News and the Today Show and a panellist on Australia’s Next Top Model and to top it off, host of a boxing TV reality show.
Charlotte started out her working life as an international model and will try her hand at anything and do it brilliantly. Of course, she always looks stunning. We decided to spend time with Charlotte to find out about her approach to beauty and what lies in her special beauty bag.
Charlotte said, ” I have always tried to have a good beauty routine”. Her tip for keeping skin looking good is to keep it alive and fresh through hydration. She drinks litres of water a day. “Even if you are a sun bunny, make friends with SPF” Charlotte said. It is the only way to protect you from aging and possible health issues.
She also takes three capsules of concentrated Omega3, a good multivitamin and if not eating very well for any reason will also take vitamin C and activated B complex. When she is under stress, which is often the case, she visits a naturopath for a prescription of adrenal support herbs. Charlotte’s diet is rich in fresh foods and mainly organic. One of her favourite meals is brown rice, dried apricots orange zest, pine nuts, and spanish onions parsley and mushrooms all mixed together. She will eat it by itself or with fish and some steamed broccoli or spinach. She doesn’t always get time to exercise but when she does she might practice yoga, go for a long walk or do a session with a trainer. Charlotte said ” we are now all aware that putting toxins in our bodies is destructive and a form of self abuse so we are all living much healthier lifestyles.”She swears by her regular Omnilux treatments and tries to have one before any big event as the treatment makes her skin look so much better. She also uses skincare products from the Elixer line.
One of the most important makeup tools is a good eyebrow shaper/brush and pencil. Charlotte feels that a good-looking eyebrow is essential as well as mascara that doesn’t clump and a really slick lip-gloss with a hint of colour. Sheer foundation or a tinted moisturizer containing an SPF, is also essential.
Charlotte has recently taken on the role of spokesperson for Goldwell so her hair must always look immaculate. How does she do it? She was formerly a brunette but is now a blonde so she has colour every 4-6 weeks, which can take its toll, so she relies on a great leave-in conditioner to use regularly. Her favourite is Goldwell Colorglow IQ. She also uses the Goldwell Colorglow IQ Shampoo and Cool Blonde Conditioner to preserve the colour as much as possible.
Charlotte’s favourite fragrance is First by Van Clef and Arpel as her mother used to wear it all the time and this helps keep her mother with her always. Her final beauty essential is a good soak in a bath with anything by Jo Malone in it -such a beautiful indulgence. Charlotte runs her life and her beauty routine with style and professionalism and it was an honour to take a peak in her beauty case.
