2016 saw some pretty wacky beauty trends and there are some that are best left behind. Here are the beauty looks that we’re ready to ditch…

Faux freckles

I don’t know why these were ever a thing, but they were and I’m glad we’re leaving them behind.

The Instagram eyebrow

The creepily perfect 2016 Instagram eyebrow – dark, bold, sharp and incredibly high maintenance requires all kinds of powder, gel and concealer wizardry. Yes, they look evenly matched, but it also takes ages and they kind of end up looking like upside down Nike ticks. Take a breath because feathered, natural eyebrows are making a return (a la the original Cara Delevigne brow).

Over-lined lips

Going cray with the lipliner is saaah 2016! Instead of creating a whole new set of lips, try following your natural lip line and focusing on defining the shape of the cupid’s bow. A little shading will give you a plumper look, but still make for a more natural, subtle finish.

Extreme contouring

I think we can all admit that it got pretty darn crazy there for a bit. YouTubers began contouring their cleavages, abs and the backs of their heads (smh), and it got weird. Thankfully it has scaled back in 2017. Sure, everyone looks nice with accentuated cheekbones, but it’s refreshing to know we might be entering a time where it’s not necessary to put a tonne of makeup on in order to put your best face forward.

Kylie Jenner lip challenge

Grab a lip plumper and stand away from the shot glass! This trend had a heck load of fails *cringe* and was actually pretty dangerous. Let’s just stick with a lipliner and save yourself the pain… and the embarrassment.

Electric coloured hair

While coloured hair isn’t going anywhere, it is time to say goodbye to those vibrant, electric manes and hello to softer, more pastel colours. Kylie Jenner recently posted a throwback pic of her pastel pink ‘do, and there’s no doubt it is set to have another *huge* moment this year.
